Pedal to Plate Tour 2015 – Route and Itinerary

  • 9 am – Meet up at Wychwood Farmers’ Market (tour intro, bike safety & lunch!)
  • 1 pm – Depart for Round the Bend Farm (45 km)
  • 5 pm – Arrive! Farm tour & short workshare
  • 7 pm – Dinner and tour opening activities
  • Sleep: Round the Bend Farm

Sunday July 19th

  • 9 am – Breakfast and morning activities (stretching, meditation)
  • 11 am – Discussion about the food co-op model with James from the West End Food Co-op
  • 12 pm – Lunch
  • 2 pm – Indigenous food security presentation and discussion with The Three Sisters’ House
  • 5 pm – Dinner with Otesha Board Member, Jessica Schmidt, to learn about how Otesha Jams!
  • Sleep: Round the Bend Farm

Monday, July 20th

  • 8 am – Breakfast and break camp
  • 10 am – Bike to Palgrave United Church (43 km – lunch on the road)
  • 2 pm – Arrive
  • 3 pm – Bike maintenance workshop with Gavin from Kind Human
  • Sleep: Palgrave United Church

Tuesday, July 21st

  • 8 am – Breakfast and good mornings
  • 9:30 am – Bike to Albion Hills Community Farm (5 km)
  • 10 am – Arrive at Albion Hills for a tour & worshare
  • 12 pm – Lunch
  • Afternoon – Help the Food Coordinator prepare potluck dishes
  • 5-7 pm – Potluck with Albion Hills CSA members and Palgrave United Church members
  • Sleep: Palgrave United Church

Wednesday, July 22nd

  • 8 am – Breakfast and break camp
  • 10 am – Depart for Peace Ranch (10 km)
  • 11 am – Tour and chat about Peace Ranch’s work using farming and community living to aid folks with mental health issues
  • 12 pm – Lunch at Peace Ranch
  • 1 pm – Depart for Zocalo Organics (35 km – lots of time for swimming and ice cream stops!)
  • 4 pm – Arrive, set up camp, dinner
  • Evening – Swimming? Ice cream?
  • Sleep: Zocalo Organics

Thursday, July 23rd

  • 8 am – Breakfast
  • 9am – Garden planning workshop with Seb & Bethany from Zocalo
  • 11:30 am – Lunch
  • 12 pm – Bike to Whole Circle Farm (15 km)
  • 1:30 pm – Arrive at Whole Circle for tour & workshare (Whole Circle Farm is a biodynamic farm. Not sure what that is? We’re about to learn!)
  • 4 pm – Bike back to Zocalo (15 km)
  • 6 pm – Dinner with Zocalo owners (What does it take to start a farm, hey?)
  • Sleep: Zocalo Organics

Friday, July 24th

  • 8:30 am – Breakfast
  • 9:30-11:30 am – Workshare at Zocalo
  • 12 pm – Lunch
  • 1:30 pm – Bike to Everdale’s Hillsburgh Community Farm (6 km)
  • 2 pm – Arrive at Hillsburgh Community Farm for tour & workshare (Everdale runs a farming training program!)
  • 4 pm – Bike back to Zocalo (6 km)
  • Evening: Group time, maybe more swimming?
  • Sleep: Zocalo Organics

Saturday, July 25th

  • 8 am – Breakfast and break camp
  • 10 am – Depart Zocalo Organics for downtown Toronto (90 km! Woohoo! Don’t worry, it’s almost all down hill!)
  • 4 pm – Arrive at Otesha Board member Ken’s house
  • 6 pm – Final group dinner!
  • Evening: Tour reflections and hopes for the future
  • Sleep: Otesha Board member Ken’s house
